Dive Courses for Military and Veterans

Are you interested in learning to dive, improve your diving skills, and becoming a dive professional? The G.I. Bill® can help you accomplish this. Through this series of courses, you will learn the basics of diving and progress up this guided path to become a Divemaster, an Instructor, and/or a Public Safety Diver. We can help "Take You as Deep as You Want to Go!"

G.I. Bill® Program:

We offer five different tracks that will train and certify you to be a dive professional. Students at any level of diving certification are welcome. The tracks are designed to train a student with no prior diving experience. However, they are flexible and are adjusted to reflect the student's prior qualified certifications, if applicable.

  • Track 1: Professional Diver
  • Track 2: Technical Diving Instructor
  • Track 3: Dive Medical Instructor
  • Track 4: Dive Technician
  • Track 5: Public Safety Diver

Note: Each track has its own prerequisites. A student may enroll in one track at a time.

Track 1- Professional Diver:

This track is one of our most popular. This track will take you from your current level of diving through IDC Staff Instructor. You will learn a series of skills as you progress through the wide variety of specialties and courses. Your training will begin at the basic level and progress through more and more advanced topics including professional training and instructional development. This route will provide you with the knowledge and experience to train open water divers, advanced open water divers, rescue divers, divemasters, and assistant instructors.

Class substitutions are allowed for any student who already possesses a certification included in this program. The Program Director will work with any student interested in substitutions to develop an individual alternate training plan.

Track 2- Technical Diving Instructor:

This off shoot branch of the Dive Professional route focuses on preparing you to teach technical diving. Your knowledge of diving science will be vastly expanded and your diving abilities greatly improved. This rigorous course of study provides you with new opportunities in the world of diving and opens up previously unreachable dive sites.

The courses in this track include:

  • Tec Deep Instructor
  • Tec Trimix Instructor

Class substitutions are allowed for any student who already possesses a certification included in this program. The Program Director will work with any student interested in substitutions to develop an individual alternate training plan.

Track 3- Dive Medical Instructor:

This track provides all dive industry professionals with the essential ability to instruct others in medical procedures. During this training you will master the art of teaching basic and advanced diving first aid. You will become proficient in rendering care for adults, children, and infants in the diving environment and out. The well rounded dive professional must be able to bring the ability to teach these skills to any facility in the industry.

The courses in this track include:

  • PADI Emergency Response Instructor
  • DAN Instructor Qualification Course

Class substitutions are allowed for any student who already possesses a certification included in this program. The Program Director will work with any student interested in substitutions to develop an individual alternate training plan.

Track 4- Dive Technician:

Through this track, a dive industry professional will gain the necessary knowledge to work with and around compressed gas systems. These systems are in place in every dive shop and dive boat. Everyone in the dive industry must have this knowledge to succeed in the profession. These courses will teach you how to inspect cylinders, service valves, safely fill cylinders, maintain the transfer systems, and mix any blend of diving gas.

The courses in this track include:

  • DSAT Gas Blender Technician
  • DSAT Trimix Gas Blender Instructor
  • PSI/PCI Cylinder Inspector

Class substitutions are allowed for any student who already possesses a certification included in this program. The Program Director will work with any student interested in substitutions to develop an individual alternate training plan.

Track 5- Public Safety Diver:

Many public safety dive teams conduct urgent rescue dives in an attempt to save lives. The knowledge to safely and efficiently rescue someone is irreplaceable in the public safety diving community. These skills are also in demand on recovery teams. Divers often enter water that can pose hazards to team members. Having trained public safety rescue divers on site can mitigate some of these threats.

    • Full Face Mask Diver
    • Dry Suit Diver
    • Blackwater River Diver
  • Underwater Criminal Investigator
  • Master Underwater Criminal Investigator
