Advanced Open Water Course Details:

Each of the different parts of the course proceed at the student's pace. The student must demonstrate successful understanding or mastery before the instructor will proceed on to the next section.

  • The first part of the course involves a period of knowledge development. In this section you will learn about the fundamentals of several different advanced skills. This knowledge is important because you will later use it to better understand why you perform the different skills and safety steps during the open water dives.
  • The second part of the Advanced Open Water Diver Course will consist of at least five open water dives conducted over a period of at least two days. These may be conducted in a lake, river, or in the ocean; your instructor will advise you as where your class will be diving. During the open water dives you will review the skills you learned in the knowledge development section. One of these dives will focus on underwater navigation techniques. A second will focus on the skills you need to make deeper dives. The other three dives may focus on wreck diving, night diving, search and recovery, drift diving, digital underwater photography, or peak performance buoyancy skills.
